Service Description

Genealogists know graphs. We will teach how to leverage a graph database and transform your world view and approach to genealogy research. Neo4j is a native graph database you can install locally on your personal computer. A recently developed "plug-in" for Neo4j allows you to load your GEDCOM and DNA files in Neo4j. With some assistance from your genealogy skills, your curated files will help link the family tree to the known DNA matches. Then the analytics using easily executed functions in the plug-in will take you on a novel journey seeking insights about your family relationships and discoveries from DNA matches, segments, triangulation groups and haplotrees. If you catch the graph-bug, you can use the open source plug-in at home or join the group exploring this new approach. This lecture will appeal most to advanced genetic genealogists but the presentation is designed for general audiences and helping them see the future directions of genetic genealogy and appreciate some novel insights emerging from graph analytics.
