Graphs for Genealogists Workshop
Install, configure and load your data to Neo4jl start your analytics
Service Description
A native graph database (Neo4j) has powerful capabilities for managing and analyzing genealogical data. We will review these features with specific examples and demonstrations, including hierarchical data (e.g., patrilineal trees), linking data (FAN groups), linking graphs (genetic genealogy), graph algorithms (clusters) and visualization. We will then guide you through the installation of Neo4j on your personal computer and configuring it for genealogy projects. This will include installing a Neo4j PlugIn with many functions for genealogy. If you follow carefully outlined instructions, you can prepare data in advance of the workshop and then load it into Neo4j during the workshop. Data loaded will include a GEDCOM file, FTDNA DNA files, and spreadsheets you curate linking a GEDCOM identifier to DNA files and another with triangulation group boundaries. You will learn how to think in graphs and come away with a different world view. These insights can help you improve your own consulting or your collaboration with graph experts. Finally, you will learn how this field may evolve and how the PlugIn can be enhanced.
